T&T: VSC inspection

Somebody on the list yesterday brought up VSC stickers. We once had a
USCGA inspector issue us the sticker and paperwork givng only a brief
external inspection of the boat. I won't say when, where, or who. He
knew our boat and that we keep it in top condition and we had called him
to come inspect it. I guess he figured if we called him, we were ready to
be inspected. I agree that even a full VSC inspection is pretty
superficial. Also I have said earlier, I think boardings by the regular
USCG add little or nothing to real safety. I read on another list (from
someone in the CG) that 70% of citations from such boardings deal with
failure to have registration papers onboad or other such non-safety
issues. If the CG is so strapped for resources, it seems to me that this
would be a simple way to save wear, money, fuel, and people time..
