Hi all,
My old trawler needs some new (rebuilt) injectors, and I'm having a
hard time finding a mechanic in my area who knows O-L-D Cummins diesels. The
boat is currently on the hard at a marina on the Potomac, near the 301 bridge
between MD and VA. The engine is an "English" Cummins - 1970-71 era "V-470-M"
- a great old workhorse.
I used to be a diesel mechanic with the Navy, so I
know enough to know I want a professional doing this work. The rockers are all
on a rail, that needs to be removed to get to the injectors. The 4 bolts
holding that rail on are also head bolts... makes me wonder if it's even
advisable to pull the rail w/o pulling the head to replace the big gasket.
Yikes... just the thought of that bill... Also, there is a freaky little brass
sleeve at the bottom of the injector's port - something that requires special
tools to monkey with.
Can anyone provide the name/number of a good guy that
might travel to this place?
Thanks!
- Mike
