T&T: fresh water tank problem

This might be a little off topic. I recently treated my potable tanks (have
three) with bleach. Seems like a good strategy. By I think I now have an
unrelated problem. For some reason one of my tanks has made my hot water
heater smell like it has been contaminated with oil (diesel fuel?) and the taste
will not dissipate. I have not yet purged the tanks and am on shore water.
Cold water was and is fine. I am running the hot faucet often (heater is
off) to flush with no real improvement.
I don't think any fuel got into the tank. Maybe an ex-girlfriend is mad...
So, is there a simple flushing miracle juice I can run through the hot water
tank/system that will eliminate this taste/smell? I need to do it - taking
a hot shower is compromised until I do. And I need them! Thanks.

I can taste and smell the chlorine in my tanks for weeks.
