T&T: Replacing Screens

The holes in the screens on my 1991 trawler seem to be growing as the mesh
slowly disintegrates. The screens are what I would call "teak sandwiches"-that
is two thin layers of teak frame with the screen material sandwiched in
between and this is held to the window frame with screws. It seems to me that
I could cut the old screen out and perhaps glue a new screen on the inside
face which would be held in place securely once the frames were screwed back
in place. This might be a good idea except for one problem: there is a
addition of about half an inch deep along one side so that it comes close to
the sliding portion of the window. this prevents simply stretching out and
gluing on a nice flat section of screen. Perhaps I could run the screen
through my table saw and cut off this protrusion and then glue it back on
after I have glued the screen in place but the width of my saw blade would be
way more then the width of the screen material thus leaving a gab where the
frame should be close to touching the sliding section of the window. Gotta
believe that others have faced this problem and come up with solutions!!!
