T&T: A different perspective on school taxes

Larry made some good points about school taxation. But here is something to
think about.

How many people complain about the shortage of good service people who
possess adequate or excellent technical knowledge?
It is the school system which should be providing the students with the
basics and perhaps the desire to pursue a technical education. When the
school system is crippled by funding cuts and barely provide minimal skills
in the three R's what can you expect?

When I went to school I had access to every imaginable kind of shop from
drafting to machine shop and including machinery repair, welding, carpentry,
foundry work, etc. It was largely responsible for giving me the technical
skills I now possess.
Sadly that same school now has empty work shops closed due to funding cuts
and some insane belief that its too risky to let students learn in a shop
environment. My daughter's generation is unable to accomplish even the
simplest home repairs.

The danger of having a nation of unskilled people who can't find work is
worse than the school tax bite. Well we are paying that price now, by not
having enough technical or skilled enough people to do the servicing we
would like to have.
So the next time you get short changed by some incompetent trade person -
remember; it's probably due in part to your tax cuts at work. <VBG>

Cheers
Arild
