T&T: wifi revisited

There have been threads upon threads on this subject but the technology
reinvents itself so frequently it's worth re-exploring. Especially since I'm
getting ready to do a bit of cruising and I want to stay in touch. I use a
Verison aircard with Kyocera KR-1 and it keeps us in a wifi cocoon here in
Covington. I'm installing a new nav computer in the flybridge eyebrow and I
want to network it with the other two computers I already have.
Upload/download Capn routes. Etc.

Doesn't take much of a wifi to do this. Say, $15 worth. But what if we're
getting into an iffy area where Verizon doesn't reagn supreme and we want to
sniff out a wifi hotspot? What are recommended units. Here are a couple in my
price range.

antenna.

I'd appreciate any ideas, pro or con. Perhaps a more cost effective approach.
