T&T: whistlers

Since the old generator thread has morphed into a 2-10-30 micron hydra, I
thought I'd start a new thread. Quite some time ago, I installed check
valves to prevent accidental fuel spillage through the vent lines. They work
very well except for one glaring shortcoming. When the valve closes, if the
fill nozzle isn't the auto shutoff kind, sometimes the tank belches and the
fueler gets a shot of fuel on him. Or her, that is; happened to my wife.
Recently, I installed fuel vent whistlers in the vent lines below the check
valves. Idea is they whistle from displaced air as the fuel goes in. When
the fuel reaches them, the noise stops before it gets to the check valve.
Got a chance to check them yesterday when we went down to take on fuel. They
DO work. In fact they're so loud I had to wear my engine room ear
protectors. As I filled the tanks, my wife walked the dog and she said she
could hear them from 200' away.
Regards.
Larry
