As a Prius owner and green environmentalist very concerned about global warming I find it amusing that someone would think that high fuel prices are the product of politically correct manipulation. Exxon had 3rd quarter profits of $10 billion. Are the enviros running Exxon?

At the same time, if engine makers were to spend as much development money on enhancing fuel economy as they spend on power enhancement, we would be spending a lot less on fuel even with the higher prices.

But you make no mention of the profits taken by the government from that
oil revenue.... that's not widely known either.
I really don't think much of this whole $100-a-barrel thread has a whole
lot to do with trawlers other than the future cost of fuel, something
over which we have little control. The bulk of the content of the
postings has to do with doom & gloom and the propagation of one
political point of view or another, IMHO a subject better suited for a
political blog. IMHO this thread has outlived its useful life after
about the 3rd post. I resist the impulse to reply to any of these
political baitings, but honestly, does a Prius actually float??
The real issue is we can't solve the $100-a-barrel problem here. Even if
we could, it's not the right forum, gentlemen (& ladies). Can we kindly
stick to the intent of the list?
