It is not widely known, but Canada is the largest source of imported oil to the United States. As a Prius owner and green environmentalist very concerned about global warming I find it amusing that someone would think that high fuel prices are the product of politically correct manipulation. Exxon had 3rd quarter profits of $10 billion. Are the enviros running Exxon?
The realities of the global economy indicate that oil prices are at an all time high because of the current horrific political situation in the Middle East and Central Asia and they are not going to get any lower anytime in the forseeable future. At the same time, if engine makers were to spend as much development money on enhancing fuel economy as they spend on power enhancement, we would be spending a lot less on fuel even with the higher prices.
With respect for all,
Jonathan

REPLY: The fact is much of the crude oil in the midwest already comes
from the Alberta oil sands. A pipeline from Canada already skirts Duluth
and another BIG one is being plannned along with a major expansion of a
refinery here and one in Chicagoland. Then there is the oil shale
deposits in Wyoming which are larger than all Saudi Arabia ever had.
Methinks there is something else going on on the high prices. Politically
correct manipulation by the enviros or global warming crowd?
