T&T: onan 8kw gen monitoring

what would be the minimum monitoring for an 8kw onan gen on my KK42?

it runs great but if i lost a belt or raw water flow i wouldnt know it till
it froze up.  should i run a temp sensor up to the pilothouse as a minimum
precaution?  is there an audible alarm that i could just stick on it down
there in the engine room?
