Ron Nelson's interesting post got me thinking and doing a little price
comparisons on the web today. The Xantrex problems with quality control,
reliability, and customer support have been well covered on the list in the
past. Ron's discussion of the Magnum inverter was what got my interest
today.

In looking at the Magnum inverter/chargers, both Sine Wave and MSW versions,
it was interesting that when comparing the price of the inverter/charger
(with remote control), the Magnums are 5 to 12% less expensive than the
comparable Xantrex units!

Have any listees put in these Magnum units? How is your experience with
them?

Kevin

PS - after looking at an MSW output waveform on a scope and seeing just how
horrible it really is, I now refer to "MSW" as "Modified Square Wave",
instead of the advertising term the manufacturer's prefer to use. It is
nothing more than a plain square wave (complete with ringing), with one
additional step between 0 and 110 Volts. Actually seeing the wave form lets
you understand why some products just won't work well on MSW power.
