T&T: Any AirMail/Winlink users local to Mystic, CT?

I've been battling away trying to get my trawler ready for sending e-mails
via the ICOM 710 SSB radio that came with the boat. I recently bought a
SCS PTC-IIUSB (Pactor III) modem locally, but the local SCS dealer is not
offering any hands on help. The Modem seems to be talking to (controlling)
the radio, but I can't seem to connect to the stations that will forward
the e-mail.
I even bought an AirMail help guide from Dockside radio but no joy yet. I
thought I had it figured out when I read about the propagation guide that
pointed out that I had been trying at the very worse time of day. So
Sunday night after dark found me huddled in my cold pilothouse trying to
reach out and touch someone. I changed a bunch of settings and power
levels but am not really sure of what I'm doing. I'm definitely
transmitting since I can watch the DC meter dance up to about 11 amps, but
I'm not too sure how effectively. I'm getting pretty good at dimming the
DC lights and turning on my music radio while transmitting.
Are there any HAMs in the Mystic/Ledyard CT area familiar with AirMail and
WinLink that would be willing to give me some guidance? I'll even preheat
the pilothouse and bring your choice of cold beer or hot coffee.
