Craig,
Assuming you're not staying on a slip anywhere in Greenport (Mitchell Park, Claudio's, or one of the marina in Sterling Harbor), and you're intent is to drop the hook someplace and walk or dinghy to Greenport's Mitchell Park for the Trawler Fest, you're out of luck.
There's a couple of town moorings in Sterling Harbor, but are usually occupied, especially on the weekends. If not too windy, you might try anchoring off the breakwater to the entrance to Sterling Harbor for a couple of hours, and dinghy to the dinghy dock in Sterling Harbor, but it's not really a place to leave a boat unattended. The closest anchorage would be Orient Harbor, about 3 - 4 miles east of Greenport. Orient is a fair-weather harbor, open to the South and West. There are anchorages on Shelter Island, West Neck and Coecles Harbor, with 48 hours limits, but no easy way to get to Greenport.
When cruising in the area, we usually stay on a mooring in Dering Harbor (Piccozzi's or Jack's) or Coecles Harbor Marina (we have bikes on board), and take the ferry to Greenport. From Dering Harbor, you can walk to the ferry dock then over to Greenport. If you have bikes, Coecles allows you access to the North Ferry at Dering, or South Ferry to Sag Harbor. Coecles Marina rents bikes.
