Bob,
I know a little about the Nayron North Atlantic 42 (now called the North
Atlantic 40), which is also described in more detail at
http://www.nayronyacht.com/ and on the broker's website.
The hull, and presumably the rest of the boat is made in Bas-Caraquet in
Northern New Brunswick utilizing the old C&C CML 37 moulds. The CML37 was
made by Commercial Marine Limited, then a subsidiary of C&C Yachts Limited
of sailboat fame. Anecdotally, the CML 37's were known as high quality
trawler yachts and the only foray into powerboats for C&C; however, they
ceased operations after building 14 boats in the late 1980's. I knew the
Hull #1 vessel owners and cruised with them for several years along Coastal
Nova Scotia and the Bras d'Or Lake. Someone raised a concern last year about
CML37 hulls being balsa sandwich but there was no information about whether
sides and bottom differ in content, and no concerns I heard from other
owners. I don't know anything more about the quality of the North Atlantic
42 other than she looks salty and comes from a good heritage. The only one I
am aware of (2005 or 2006?) is being offered by our local broker, Ocean
Yacht Sales, who also handled the purchase and sale of my DeFever 41T and
has a CML37 for sale in Georgian Bay; however, I see the boat is now located
in Annapolis and is being called the North Atlantic 40.
