Renovating a 50 year-old 56 foot steel trawler. There is a large CO2 tank
plumbed to 4 horns in the engine room. The interesting thing is that upon
dismantling, we discovered that the painted piping was rigid copper. I'm
assuming that this is because the pipe sits empty during its life, and rust
might otherwise build up that would plug the tiny nozzle orifices (Orifi?)
if discharged.
We've completely re-configured the engine room and need to re-plumb the CO2
system. Can we use galvanized pipe instead of rigid copper? Just trying to
save some $$$, but don't want to do so where it matters.
We're Great Lake sailors and have little experience with salt water. We're
preparing the boat for blue water cruising, and have to anticipate corrosion
issues.
