T&T: Frustrating radio question

I have an ICOM, now a spare, that had some of problems you mentioned 
and a few others. It turned out to be the button battery inside. One 
radio shop in Marathon, FL wanted to change out a bunch of components 
in the RF section, but that would have cost more than the radio was 
worth, so we just stuck it in a drawer. When we got home, my wife 
suggested I take the radio apart and see if it had a "keep-alive" 
battery in it and if so, to change it. I did, and the radio worked 
properly. Since I had already replaced it, the old ICOM is now a spare.
