Greg, I too have had very good luck with Alpenglo. As info, I did not buy any
teak from them: I sent them my recessed ceiling fixtures and they rebuilt
them. I have never used the spare bulb that came with them.
In fact, the only product I have been disappointed with that was recommended
on this list was the CO Experts Carbon Monoxide detector that I purchased from
Aero Medix for over $100. The literature infers that it is used in aircraft
and perhaps it works well there. It is possible that it is the shore power
battery charging that continually sets it off during the night. When I
previously brought up my problems with this unit to the list it was suggested
that I should communicate directly with them. Here is the message that I sent
to an executive of Areo Medix that was never replied to:

Subject: Very unhappy
I purchased your unit on May 5, 2006 (unit 05-0308 APR 2006) and it has sat in
a drawer without your fine battery since the first week it was installed. I
purchased it based on a recommendation on a boating bulletin board that I am
part of. When another recommendation came up for your unit recently I told the
poster that I was about to post a scathing report about the unit and he
suggested that I communicate with you folks before doing that asking for help.
I am aboard our boat which is diesel powered. I put the battery back in this
trip and the same problem as before occurred: it chirps during the night even
though no known source of CO is at hand. It showed 15 ppm last night. AS info,
my wife said either your unit went or she would leave!
Your brochure talks about a "hush mode" but I did not see how that is
achieved. Must I wait til it chirps to employ the hush mode? Is there any way
to get it not to chirp until a higher level than 10 ppm is achieved? Is it
possible that I am doing something wrong? And, if there is no affirmative
answer to any of the above questions is it possible that I can get my $127.08
back because lack of sleep is also a serious safety issue?
Thank you in advance.
