T&T: cold, sweaty windows

Arild - you provide a segue for this tidbit:

A fellow liveaboard waxed poetic about using a home-based 'window insulation
kit'. This is the kind that tapes clear plastic to the inside of a window
frame and provides dead air like a double glazed window. The process uses a
hair dryer to shrink the wrinkles.

It is an amazingly effective and optically clear treatment. For under $10
you can do an entire salon. Air blowing in through door cracks and elsewhere
are more critical, but if a cold window is the problem, this is amazing
stuff. I was contemplating insulating Roman shades and/or panels, but they kill
any solar heat you might derive from Southern-facing windows. It also
dramatically reduces condensation on the inside of cold windows (evidence of it's
effectiveness).

Wish I had the patent!

FWIW. Jim

Invariably it seems the worst heat loss spots (single glazed windows) are
located above the place (bunk or couch) you want to get warm.
