T&T: Splicing double braid

As others have mentioned, the size of the fid for double braid splicing is
important. I have some relevant information on my Boating Info website at
http://bottrell.ca/BoatInfo.htm under 'Dock Line Guidelines' and 'Double
Braid Eyesplice'. I believe the fid for 3/8" line should be about 1/4" D,
7.75" Long with a short section of 3" and long section of 4.75". Instead of
buying a special fid, I have often made them out of wood dowel stock.
Another trick is to tape the core to the fid to make it easier to go through
the crossover.
