I have a big ol honkining Ideal windlass set up with a chain gypsy on one side
and line on the other side. Since my primary approximately 80 lb Supermax
anchor is also the only one I ever need or deploy the line side is unused.
Keep in mind using rope rode usually requires some chain and the end chain
coming in on the line side is cumbersome in my mind.
But I do love the Ideal. I save fuel by anchoring in Florida letting out
enough chain to reach the Chesapeake and then when ready to return to Florida
simply haul in the anchor chain with the Ideal windlass. NOTE: Ideal does
not recommend using their equipment to move the boat.
My Ideal is big, heavy & strong. Make sure your anchor platform or bow pulpit
is up to the task and not the weakest link so to speak.
