A Detroit Diesel 4-71pumps roughly 60 gallons of fuel per hour, and burns
about 3 of those gallons. You can not separate out the fuel used to cool the
injectors from the fuel burned. Just by the design, 57 gallons of fuel per
hour is "polished". So, a couple of hundred gallons of fuel is polished in
about 3 1/2 hours.
