Frilight is a Swedish company  that makes a variety of puck lights both 
surface mount and recessed.  I paid around $10 each in smal quantity.
The other type Scot mentioned is often called "festoon" lighting and is 
distributed by commercial  display  lighting  supplies.
If you look up  industrial or commercial  display lighting experts,  you 
can  find someone near you  that handles these products.
Also remember rope lighting. Often used for outdoor display  they are 
waterproof for cockpit and swim grid  installation. they uses only a few 
watts per linear foot and the LED variety  even less.
