And all this time I've been looking for white, UN helicopters! The story
about the Key West Customs/Border Patrol office's interpretation of entry
rules for foreign pleasure vessels demonstrates that these are fallable
people interpreting the rules and not a monolithic government. They can be
ignorant, unhappy, onery, and stubborn. At least our form of government
allows us to complain about poor treatment.
It wasn't that long ago that our Coast Guard was boarding pleasure craft in
offensive manner and treating crew poorly. Prior to 9/11, the Commandant
changed their behavior based upon citizen complaints. Now, the few stories
we hear mention a military approach being taken.
