T&T: Confiscating laptops

US Customs has always had unlimited search powers and the confiscation of
contraband. This includes destructive searches - of which we now hear
little. This power is wielded by agents both new and old. Fill in the
blanks.

In addition to the backup methods already recommended, there are two other
methods you might consider. One is to FEDEX your laptop or a hard drive
home. The other is to purchase one of two types of USB external hard drives:
the new, cheap, mirrored hard drive by Western Digital and the new fireproof
Maxtor external drives.

Finally, the exploitation of laptops by DHS is foolish - althought there are
dumb terrorists and spies. The new 32GB and 64GB USB flash drives can be
concealed anywhere or shipped by any means. This screening method is as
effective as airport passenger screeners.
