I believe the sensor is for crankshaft position and thus the name TDC for Top
Dead Center. Of course the position of the crank could be determined
indirectly from the cam but it is more precise to measure the crank directly.
The cam rotates at half the crank speed and has a gear drive where minute
errors from wear may change squirt timing. After all, if the ECM is timing to
milliseconds the injector pulses, why use a slower rotating shaft that is
driven off the crank whose position must be more precisely known than a cam
lobe. Of course some engineers may like the cam better so your engine may
vary.
We carry a spare crankshaft position sensor for the eCat 3126B as it will not
even start let alone run if this sensor fails .
