Arild, I too was an ABYC certified electrical technician, and I allowed my
certification to lapse. But the knowledge that I gained is still with me. I
don't need the patch for my shirt and I don't advertise that I am, or was. I
did
it to fill in the gaps in my knowledge. E-11, the ABYC electrical standard is
revised every three years. Things change, and in the ABYC's opinion you must
be
re-certified to accurately apply the standard. This is the same with my US
Coast Guard License, renew it every 10 years, or loose it. But I agree with
you,
no one told me that it would only last five years before I spent the money
and time on it.
