Any thoughts about or experience with non-electric portable space
heaters operating on small propane bottles or kerosene?

I live aboard here in Virginia and use portable propane heaters called
"Buddy" and "Big Buddy". You can check them out at mrheater.com The local
Lowes store carries them in season. They are able to accept the small propane
bottles or you can buy (as I did) a hose kit to attach them to a 20 pound
tank. I have reverse cycle cruise-airs, but below 40 degree water temperature
they struggle to make any heat and I switch to the propane. I have been very
happy with the Buddy heaters, but I am VERY careful about making sure there
are no leaks! I have used kerosene before, but not on a boat. I would worry
about the smell. One issue I do have with propane is it appears to have a
rather high moisture content, when I have to use the Buddys the condensation
problem inside the boat seems to get worse. The water temperature at my dock
bottomed out back in January at 37 degrees this winter, it was 58 this
morning, I'll be happy when it breaks 70 and the wakeboard can come out of
mothballs :)
