"Imagine a tanker that big maneuvering close to a tug and tow, getting a
line
on, and pulling them off the Florida coast. It led to the largest salvage
award (at least at the time....Doug?)."
To my knowledge it is the largest single award. Margate Shipping Co, owner
of the 688 foot tanker M/V Cherry Valley (nine million gallons of heavy fuel
oil) was originally awarded $6.4 million in salvage. This was reduced to
$4.125 million on appeal.
We wave to Skip on the Penobscot.
The book should be on your list.
