T&T: Air Conditioner "Draining" Down

normally if the hose runs uphill from the seacock/strainer to the pump
inlet, with no high/low point, it should self prime and not loose its prime.
the only times i've had issues were if there were high points in the line.
usually loosing prime only happens when the boat is hauled out, is your
thruhull forward on the hull where it could get air underway ? kinda odd on
a trawler !
i woudln't use a check valve... chances are sooner or later a barnacle or
debris will get in there and jam it.
