T&T: Air Conditioner "Draining" Down

Every time I take my Trawler out from the dock, I loose prime on my AC pump. 
Should there be some type of a check valve that prevents the drain down. Some 
times the AC pump will not pickup prime when I dock, then I have to prime it 
manually. The AC pump is about 8" below the waterline, one pump supplies both 
AC units. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I've looked for a check valve 
but haven't found one.
