T&T: Alameda to Vancouver BC - Passport needed?

Just came back into the US through the border crossing at the Thousand
Islands Bridge in New York on a bus with a bunch of guys who were on a
fishing trip.  The US Customs agent collected each and every passport
and took them inside for scanning while we waited.  The short answer is,
yes you will need it!
