T&T: Voice over radio

 Just last night I saw a show about the beginning 
of the telephone system. It was started with all 
male operators. Back then every call went through 
an operator to reach any destination.
 It only took a couple of years for the phone 
company to change over to female operators. The 
stated reasons were courtesy, intelligibility, 
diction, and proper use of the language.
 Funny how when the continued operation of the 
system depends on the customer being happy with 
the service the 'old buy network' fades into the 
dust of history in a very short time.
 As long as the people who make the decisions bear 
no penalty for being wrong they manage to keep on 
being wrong decade after decade.
