T&T: Gore-Tex Tenara Question

Bob has answered many of my questions.  Thanks.  One more though - needle
size.  I have not used this thread but have been told that stitches are
sometimes skipped due to the slipperiness of this product causing it to back
out of the hole with the needle instead of making a proper loop  for the
shuttle gib to grab (if I'm saying that all correctly).  My next project is
to use vinyl/flannel lined "boat topping" and if I use too large a needle
then I understand that unlike Polyester, the Tenara will not swell to seal
the holes.  Any advise is appreciated.
