my opinion...i use the volt meter as it tells me what the batt is doing...i
never let the batts go below 12.2 volts...i charge them with an external
regulator, and a leece/nevile 130 amp heavy duty alt...the external reg is
from ample power...the V3...best unit i`ve ever seen/used...i spent 5 yrs
trying to figure out the balmar stuf...finally gave up, and went bk the the
very reliable ample power stuf! the V3 does everything but yer dishes!! just
set the batt type, and forget it! i use an amp meter, with a shunt, to tell
me how much amps things use...how many amps the batt, or the alt is putting
into the batts...my last 6, 6 volt sweeper batts lasted 10 yrs!...i also
have a unit called the 'nanopulser'...i shocks the batts every few seconds,
and keeps the plates clean...they sell them at 'boat electric.com'...that`s
in seattle...also...i don`t have, or want, an inverter on my bote!...i run a
gas frig...norcold...uses a 5 gal can of propane in 3 wks...just need to
vent the heat out the top, and let cool air in at the bottom! i use a small
whisper fan to help get the heat out too...i run the genset to chge the
batts if needed, and to heat water for showers...takes me 2 yrs to get 100
hrs on it...i amsoil synthetic 15/40, and change it every 2 yrs...enuf...c
