The lower station has a 60-0-60 meter. I have just been given a 50-0-50 to
try up top. (endsnip)
As others have said, it will work but makes for a long route for the
alternator to charge the batteries. A volt meter is a better choice. My boat
has voltmeters at both stations. On my last boat trip I was having some
flaky readings on one of the volt meters on the flybridge. I found digital
voltmeters on egauges.com for about $35 that look great, and work great so
far. (I replaced both on the bridge so they match) With a digital volt meter
you can really tell what the alternator is doing, and $35 is a bargain for
digital meters! We're leaving tomorrow morning for a 9 day cruise down the
Texas coast so I guess that will be the test to see how these cheap gauges
hold up! I'll try to remember to report how they hold up.
Here is the link to the gauges I ordered.
