Each day that I live, I count it a loss if I do not learn something new.
Sometimes what I learn comes from the most improbable of places and this
list is the repository of improbable places. What is simple, obvious and
boring to one man could just possibly be the precise solution to the vexing
problem another man has. Toilets, bilges, wiring, multiplexing instruments.

I fancy that after 60 some odd years I've learned a thing or two and indeed
I think I have. But. The thing I have learned most clearly over the years is
. . just how much there is that I do not know. It is a tribute to this
list that there is so much raw knowledge available here. A fellow can come
and humbly ask a question, the answer to which a thousand boaters knew when
they were 14, and an old salt will patiently explain to him why this is the
right way to do it. Or at least a cheaper, equally good way.

I can only presuppose that, from his words, Paul already knows everything,
which is remarkable in itself. It's a pity that he's leaving the list
because he's removing a rare resource- the guy with all the answers. I wish
him well.
