AN EMAIL FROM THE LIST ADMINISTRATOR
The Great Loop List Administrator recently posted a short reminder to
the Great Loop List regarding several items that bear repeating for our
T&T List subscribers.
Here they are, quoting directly from Mike's post (with a few annotations):
* Use common sense when posting. Be aware that you always have two
options: responding through the list or to a member personally. The
content of your message should determine which of these you choose.
* Don't over-quote. Include only the specific information you're
responding to, and chop out the rest. As a general rule, your reply
should almost always be longer than what you include from the original
post. [The quoted material should be shorter in length than your
reponse. Assume that subscribers have already read the email to which
you're replying.]
* Keep posts to the list brief. If you're post doesn't add value, don't
send it. (Example: Don't send a "thanks" , "attaboy" or "right on"
message through the list. Send something like that directly to the
person you're thanking.)
I'll add one additional item that has plagued both the GL List and T&T
List recently, and has been the subject of several private emails I
received from list subscribers - _cross-posting_. Please, if you're
subscribed to both the GL List and the T&T List or any of the other T&T
lists, refrain from posting the same email to more than one list. Decide
which list is appropriate for your post (GL List for topics referring to
cruising the Great Loop, T&T List for general trawlering posts) and post
it to that list. Cross-posting creates confusion and doubles the amount
of email traffic related to that topic/subject.
These four items are incorporated into the list rules, with which you
should be familiar.
If you would like further information about the list rules, please point

Discussions on-list about any of these topics is neither solicited nor
desired. If you have any questions or comments, please email me directly.
