T&T: Paravane Rigging

In the case of my paravanes the actual load is probably less than 2lb per
square inch.

My boat is round bottom, 8500lbs the poles are 10' and the fish are 35lbs
and 105 square inches. They are rigged with internal 7/16" dacron halyards
over a top pulley to the pilot house. This rig is very effective at
stopping rolling on all points in all seas.

While underway at a full cruise of 6 knots I can literally grab hold of the
halyards and adjust the depth of the fish. I can even hang onto them when
the fish are resisting roll. I am pulling maybe 100lbs to do this.

I can also give some insight on hitting the bottom. I snagged a fish at
cruise and it more or less gently pulled to boat to a turning stop without
damage to anything. Of course I looked around first thing to see if anyone
saw that boner move.

I hope this helps and does not confuse.
