I can imagine your frustration. Unfortunately quick fixes can become
complicated repairs later as you and I have found out. I think they are
more than just wax products...I was not able to get my gelcoat on a small
runabout to look good again. It was splotchy and dull...so I painted it.
One of the preparation procedures before applying those products can be
scuffing or wet sanding the gelcoat. Also, the gelcoat was probably damaged
by UV and possibly chalking when the owner decided to try to make it look
better. With that said, I imagine the acrylic is embedded in the porous
gelcoat. You may not be able to salvage a good finish from the original
gelcoat.
Some options are, light wet sanding, rubbing compound, polishing compound
and various polishes on the market. Last is painting the hull.
Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

ARGGGHHH!!!
The previous owner put on Newglass, Poliglow or some equivilant on the hull
and failed to maintain it. It looks horrible. I've spent the long weekend
using ammonia, oxalic acid, TSP and rubbing compound looking for the right
stuff. Anyone know of anything that can remove acrylic coating? If anyone
else has done this they know the frustration.
