T&T: Is there a defense?

There are many US jurisdictions (if not most) where the finding of contraband drugs in a building or vehicle results in the immediate seizure of said property and you will play hell getting it back... The reason is that when the sheriff seizes the property he gets to keep it, or sell it and put the money into his general fund, and spend that any way he sees fit - and the local court which declares it drug money gets a percentage cut also as 'court costs' (sweet, huh?)...
There have been a number of horror stories in the recent past... One was an elderly lady was stopped on a highway in Florida with a box of money on her back seat.... The story was that she had sold her house and was on her way to finalize the purchase another home with the money from her sale. The sherriff seized her cash and said it was drug money... When the national media picke dup the story he flatly stated that she would have to prove that it was NOT drug money before he would give it back... I do not know the resolution of that case and perhaps others can chime in here with that info...
Anyway the point is, in some jurisdictions having contraband drugs will result in the seizure of your property, including boats... In some jurisdictions simply having more than a few dollars in cash is enough for it to be declared drug money and seized... No one guaranteed that the world will be fair... Only you can prevent horror stories...
