T&T: Is there a defense?

Caribbean legend has it that the USCG boarded a cruising boat in the VI and
in one cabin found a small stash of weed. When the crew was questioned, one
guest confessed, "It's mine." Because the culprit was a guest the boat was
neither impounded nor the skipper fined. Don't know if true or not, but agree
that the best defense is to tell guests ahead of time they are not to bring
any illegal drugs aboard. Of course, this would immediately exclude most
boat-boys in the Eastern Caribbean from coming aboard for a cold one!

> A non-boating drug incident we heard about recently got us to wondering
what
would happen if a guest brought drugs aboard and we were stopped for a safety
check and these were found. Or say the guest hid them and they were forgotten
and later found in a boarding. Is there a way to protect your self from
prosecution and the vessel from confiscation when you are totally innocent
and
unaware of the drugs?
