T&T: Aft Cabin Ventilation

Phil:

We have found that a Home Depot dual window fan fits perfectly in our aft
cabin rear window. Each fan is individually controlled and they can be
reversed. We set it to blow in outside air and it works very well on all
but the hottest nights. This fan runs off the inverter and draws very
little on low or medium. We also utilize a 12 volt fan in the aft cabin.
With an aft cabin you will have to occasionally run the generator all night
to run the AC but not very often. We anchor out a lot and I am addicted to
AC but we did not need to run the AC at night at all during the last summer.

Another thing that influences this issue on our boat, is that the main fuel
tank is located under the bed in the aft cabin and this fuel cools the
injectors on 6-71s. It does not make a huge difference but it does make it
harder to cool.

The window fan blows cool air in directly from the outside and over the bed
so it makes a big difference.
