"Our old Norcold finally quit, and time to replace. "

We had our 5 year old Never Cold fridge pack it in about 18 months ago. I
looked at the cost of replacing the unit but found the least expensive
option was about $1800. I took the fridge to a fellow in Vancouver who put
in a new 12V only Dan Foss compressor and thermostat for about $850.

At first I was quite concerned about running only on 12 V but I have come
to love the new system as it works sooooo much better than the original and
uses dramatically less power. We have a 900 amp hour battery bank and can
leave the fridge running by itself for 2 weeks without having to recharge
the batteries. The unit freezes 2 litre milk jugs full of water, bread and
anything else we care to put in the frezzer. The old Never Cold would never
do that.

If the fridge box is still in good shape and you can find someone to replace
the compressor and thermostat with a Dan Foss 12V system I would highly
recommend the move. YMMV of course.
