T&T: Pulsesavers

List - I have had a bit of experience with "Pulse Savers" of various 
breeds and found that they appear to be best suited to battery banks 
that sit on trickle charge for long periods of time..
In my former life I was responsible for a province wide radio network 
for the Ambulance Service and at every ambulance station ( about 150 ) 
we had a base radio installation with back-up batteries in case of power 
failure. Normally I would say that most of these battery banks never saw 
use as the hydro in those locations was very reliable however there were 
some where the batteries got used quite regularly. In the overall system 
we found a very marked improvement in battery life once we started using 
the "Pulse Saver" modules and it very soon became obvious that they were 
saving us a whole lot of money on battery replacement.
I have never really made an attempt to recover a somewhat "dead" battery 
to usefulness but one of the other government communications groups here 
in British Columbia did a lot of experimenting with them and came to the 
conclusion that under certain conditions, which I forget the exact 
terms, these modules would cause a battery to recover s fair amount of 
useful life and stay that way with a module attached.
Since on our boat I had a very large bank of golf cart batteries (20 in 
a series / parallel set-up) I have never tried a "Pulse Saver" on my own 
batteries, always found it better to play with someone else's!! <grin>
Just another experience with the topic modules for consideration.
