A friend and power squadron student had the opposite approach.
He hired me to show him how to winterize his boat. But he did much of the
work himself.
Every year he called me up to come and do it again. I asked him why he
didn't just get the yard to do it?
His reply: he would rather do it and learn how his boat systems functioned
so if it came to an emergency afloat he would know something about fixing
it.
Money was not an issue. He coule easily afford to have the yard do it.
Considering the gourmet meals we usually stopped in for on the way home, it
might even have been cheaper. <grin>
But by actually doing it himself, he learned the boat systems and that was
good.
