T&T: Advise on Packing

I too have used the "green wonder" and had the same disappearing results 
- used more teflon "rope" and had no further problems. While doing the 
current re-fit on Penta I pulled the shaft to see what sort of shape it 
was in and found a whole lot of little "clumps" of the "green wonder" in 
the shaft tunnel. I came to the conclusion that there was maybe more 
clearance between the shaft and the log than the "green wonder" could 
accomodate and it just squeezed past the one ring of "rope" and passed 
into the tunnel.
Not sure if that's what it was all about but I have gone back to the 
teflon rope packing and when we re-launch I will see what happens. I 
should have kept the teflon rope packing as it was what the previous 
owner had used and probably had done so for years untill I had to try 
the "new" stuff.
