This thread illustrates the dangers of our growing reliance on technology
without fully understanding it.
Unfortunately, the technology allows people with insufficient knowledge to
undertake voyages they should never have begun.
Sadly the biggest culprit in this story is the sales and marketing hype that
portrays the substitution of technology for intelligence as being perfectly
safe.
fair winds and a flood tide to all.
Arild
Thanks Arild, once again, spot on. I would take issue with one word
however. As we all know, the world is chock full of doctors, lawyers
and indian chiefs who know perfectly well that they are intelligent.
More so than you or I, if you could ask them. They, backed up by the
egos that allowed them to become doctors, et al, are so often convinced
that they 'know how to do' all the stuff it takes to run a boat. What
they lack is experience. Even some pretty ordinary intellects, with
adequate experience can, and do safely operate boats and ships.
May there always be fair winds at your back, good friends to either side
and the landfall at paradise out beyond your jackstaff.
Gary
