This sort of thing has been discussed from time to time on T&T and other
fora, more particularly, as I recall, with the use of cayenne pepper as
an additive. A number of people have reportedly enjoyed notable success
in bottom growth prevention by adding about 4 oz of cayenne per gallon
of bottom paint. One person in the Ft Myers area, iirc, about 6 years
ago claimed to have painted his hull with standard house paint
supplemented by cayenne. When pulled after one year the hull had
nothing but a light
slime. Of course, there is very little documentation, and like bottom
paints in general I suspect the degree of success will vary greatly with
geography.
