T&T: Deluo GPS

Been running the Capn on my Dell inspiron for some time, inputting the GPS
data from an el cheapo-fino Deluo GPS. Laptop sat on one of the FB cushions.
Hard to see and not water resistant.

Decided to use an exterior wide screen monitor and bury the laptop somewhere
under the FB eyebrow. This required a 20'  extension to keep the GPS in view
of all the sattelites. I purchased an extension and it gives a DOS error
message and I have to shut the laptop down by pressing the on/off button. Did
I buy the wrong extension? What's the right one?
