Thank for the interesting idea Keith but a rough calculation would put my
cost for a 24' boat at $2,332.80 plus tax. This is a little more than I had
in mind to spend on window coverings. :>)
After a day of cruising, I can't visualize myself spraying down the windows
with water and sticking on the film, but I am guessing you are talking about
small port lights only.
Jay Wigginton has a great idea that he used on his previous trawler seen
here http://tinyurl.com/2ooxnx to make cloth covers from Sunbrella and use
snaps and straps. He also suggested screens attached the same way on the
doors with a center zipper.
Another suggested cup hooks which would allow you to remove and store the
coverings.
Still considering and appreciate all of the ideas.

On my portlights, I used a self-stick vinyl with a pattern. Kinda like
shower curtain material, which would probably work also. Lets light in but
you can't see through it. It doesn't have adhesive; just sticks on it's own
when you spray the glass down with water. You can peel them off any time you
like, then put them back on again later. I got it through one of the home
decorating catalogs, but I can't remember which.
